Veteran driver Allison looking to clinch season points championship

LAS VEGAS – Mark Allison will be looking to put the finishing touches on a championship on Saturday night.

The veteran driver from Las Vegas heads to Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., atop the Late Model Truck Series standings with 180 points, followed by series co-managers Gary Wyatt (172) and Michael Riefler (169). The season-ending event is part of the Late Model Truck Series’ Salute To Veterans Weekend and will include two six-lap heat races and a 35-lap feature.

The race winner will receive a product certificate toward Richmond Gear discounts along with the payout, and the top five finishers will take home The Racer’s Rewards Contingency Connection coupon books with up to $3,000 in race product coupons. Racing starts at 6 p.m. PT and also will feature Vintage Sprints & Midgets, Legends, Bandoleros and Outlaw Karts.

“It has been a great season for the Late Model Truck Series, and Gary Wyatt and I are excited to see our champion crowned this weekend,” Riefler said. “We have had some talented race winners, with Thane Alderman, Dustin Ash and Mark Allison going to Victory Lane, and we can’t wait to see who will be next at such a prestigious race track as Havasu 95 Speedway.”

 

Alderman was victorious at the season-opening event at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Aug. 25, with Ash winning in Las Vegas on Sept. 22 and Allison taking the checkered flag at The Speedway at Willow Springs in Rosamond, Calif., on Oct. 13.

Havasu 95 Speedway opened in 1989 and ran for seven years before being closed. Paved and re-opened in March of 1996, the track again closed before 2000. It re-opened in September 2006 under the direction of Bill Rozhon and his family and has been running strong ever since.

Veteran driver takes over series points lead with win

LAS VEGAS – Mark Allison used some veteran know-how to drive to Victory Lane on Saturday night.

The longtime regional racer took the lead early in the Late Model Truck Series’ 35-lap feature at The Speedway at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, Calif., and never looked back. Allison, who started second, crossed the line ahead of series co-manager Mike Riefler, with California’s Eric Reschke taking third, LMTS co-manager Gary Wyatt finishing fourth and Mike McKearn rounding out the top five.

It was Allison’s first visit to California ¼-mile oval, and the Las Vegas native has now competed at nearly 60 tracks during his career.

“That’s the smallest track I’ve ever been on, and it was real hard to pass on,” said Allison, who is competing full time in the Lucas Oil Modifieds Series this year. “It’s a technical little track that’s flat and is a one-groover. Within the first few laps, we sorted ourselves out and that’s where we ran. It was a pretty good race, and we were all right there together.”

With the race win, Allison took over the No. 1 spot in the Late Model Truck Series points standings. McKearn – who is taking over the No. 10 LMTS truck from Arlie Daniels for the rest of the season – won the heat race earlier in the evening.

“I raced them before when they had the ASA speed trucks, and they’re fun to drive,” Allison said. “The heat race was really good, too.”

The race was the feature of the Elgin Pro Stock Performance Prestige Weekend for the regional series and part of the track’s “Destruction in the Desert Race Nights” Part 1 of 2. Allison received a $250 product certificate toward Elgin Pro Stock Performance push rods or Black Ice Rocker Arms in addition to the payout, and the top five finishers took home The Racer’s Rewards Contingency Connection coupon books with up to $3,000 in race product coupons.

We are excited and look forward to our next race at Havasu 95 Speedway on Nov. 10.”

Specialty division set for 35-lap feature at The Speedway at Willow Springs

LAS VEGAS – The Late Model Truck Series is taking the show on the road to California this Saturday night.

The series – which has a long history in short track racing in the southwest – will have a 35-lap feature as part of its Elgin Pro Stock Performance Prestige Weekend at The Speedway at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, Calif. The evening’s action is part of the 1/4-mile track’s “Destruction in the Desert Race Nights” Part 1 of 2.

“The Late Model Truck Series is gaining momentum, and Gary Wyatt and I can’t wait for this weekend,” said series organizer Michael Riefler, a longtime racing veteran and co-manager of the Late Model Truck Series. “We have had two exciting races at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and now we’re ready to showcase this great division to a new audience in California. It’s going to be a great night!”

 

The race winner will receive a $250 product certificate toward Elgin Pro Stock Performance push rods or Black Ice Rocker Arms in addition to the payout, and the top five finishers will take home The Racer’s Rewards Contingency Connection coupon books with up to $3,000 in race product coupons. The main event features start at 6.

The 1/4-mile oval is part of the eight race tracks and 600 acres that make up Willow Springs International Raceway. It is internationally recognized since 1953 as among the most prestigious in the World, and as of 1996, a California State Historical Landmark.

Michael Andretti, Tommy Kendall, Derrick Cope, and Nigel Mansell all hold track records at the facility.

“We are very excited to have the LMTS race for our Willow Springs fans this Saturday,” said Andy Daddario of The Speedway at Willow Springs. “We met Gary Wyatt and Mike Riefler at the Promoters Conference last year in Reno, and we were quick to say, ‘Absolutely. Bring it!’ We can’t wait!”

Bullring veteran ties for second in all-time wins on Pack the Track Night

 

LAS VEGAS – There’s little doubt that Dustin Ash will remember Saturday’s win for quite some time.

The longtime Bullring racer got the better of Bob Santa Maria in an epic duel that included more than a dozen lead changes, winning the Late Model Truck Series’ 35-lap feature by a razor-thin margin of .037 of a second. Ash’s victory tied him with Phil Goodwin for second on The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s all-time wins list at 58.

“(Santa Maria) had way more horsepower than I did, and all I could do was try to get through the corners the best I could,” Ash said. “Bob (Santa Maria), man, he races hard – very, very, very hard. I gave it everything I could.

“Any time you visit Victory Lane is awesome, but just to be able to drive one of these trucks that we build in-house is pretty special.”

The race was “Richmond Gear Weekend Warrior Night” for the regional series and part of Pack the Track Night presented by K&N Air Filters at The Bullring. Ash is excited about the Late Model Truck Series going forward.

“This is the first time I’ve gotten to drive one of these trucks,” Ash said. “What an awesome class, and I’m just grateful to run it. Kole Raz – the kid who runs this truck all the time – couldn’t make it so they asked me to do it, and I’m glad I did. I’d love to see this class grow.”

 

Ash used a pass on lap five to win one of the two six-lap heat races at the end of qualifying to warm up for the main event, with Eric Reschke taking the checkered in the other heat race.

Series organizer Michael Riefler was thrilled by what he saw at the 3/8-mile paved oval.

“Dustin and Bob put on one heck of a show,” said Riefler, a longtime Bullring competitor. “That was some of the best racing I’ve seen at The Bullring in a long time, and the crowd got a great look at what these trucks can do. This was a big shot in the arm for our series, and we can’t wait for our next event in California.”

The series – which has a long history in short track racing in the southwest – is set for a 35-lap feature at the 3/8-mile Las Vegas oval as part of Pack the Track Night presented by K&N Air Filters. The trucks’ feature is one of 10 races scheduled at The Bullring on “Richmond Gear Weekend Warrior Night” for the regional series.

“Gary Wyatt and I look forward to this weekend’s Pack the Track Night at The Bullring,” said series organizer Michael Riefler, a longtime Bullring competitor. “We’re excited to be back in Vegas for another great night of racing as we show fans what these trucks can do. It’s going to be a blast!”

The race winner and runner-up will receive $200 Richmond Gear product bonuses in addition to the payouts, and the top five finishers will take home The Racer’s Rewards Contingency Connection coupon books with up to $3,000 in race product coupons. Gates open at 5 p.m. PT, and racing starts at 7.

LMTS drivers also can choose to participate in three practices on Friday night – at 7, 8 and 9:20 – and those sessions are free and open to the public. Saturday’s action also includes a pair of six-lap LMTS heat races prior to opening ceremonies.

Former Bullring champion picks up 11^th career win at LVMS short track

 

LAS VEGAS – Thane Alderman was back at a familiar place – the Winner’s Circle at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – on Saturday night.

Alderman, the track’s 2002 NASCAR Super Late Models champion, cruised to victory on Back to School Night in the return of the Late Model Truck Series after a five-year hiatus. The veteran took the lead early and never looked back in the 35-lap feature, which anchored a slate of 10 races at the 3/8-mile paved oval.

It may have looked easy, but Alderman said the No. 01 Chevy he drove to the checkered flag had been in rough shape in the days leading up to the Saturday night feature.

“I can’t believe that truck went 35 laps,” said Alderman, who now has 11 career wins at The Bullring. “It broke in practice and broke in the heat race, so to make it to the finish was an accomplishment. I just want to thank the Late Model Truck Series for trying to start this thing back up.

“They asked me Thursday night to drive this truck, and I said yes. I came out here, and hopefully we put on a little bit of a show for everybody.”

Alderman – whose last Bullring win came in 2005 – crossed the line 6.123 seconds ahead of Mark Allison in the series’ first race since disbanding five years ago. Alderman and Allison both earned $150 Melling product bonus coupons in addition to their payouts.

Series owners and operators Mike Riefler and Gary Wyatt finished third and fourth, respectively, with Arlie Daniel taking fifth. Riefler and Wyatt tossed t-shirts into the crowd during a festive evening of racing that signaled The Bullring’s schedule resumption after a seven-week summer break.

“What a great way to start off the Late Model Truck Series,” Riefler said. “It’s not every day that you have two well-known racers like Thane Alderman and Mark Allison competing together and having a 1-2 finish. We’d like to thank Tim Richter and his Bullring staff for having us, putting on a great show and making sure everything ran smooth for the night.”

LAS VEGAS – The start of the Late Model Truck Series’ 2018 season has been re-scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25.

The trucks – which have a long history in short track racing in the southwest – were scheduled to be part of the racing action at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 2, but were unable to open their season due to last-minute cancellations. Series organizers Mike Riefler and Gary Wyatt are planning to schedule a make-up date for the cancellation, and that will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We’re disappointed that we were unable to open our season June 2 at The Bullring, but are optimistic about our future dates,” said Riefler, a longtime Bullring competitor. “This was our decision and was not the track’s call. We encourage everyone to spread the word about the Late Model Truck Series and would like to thank all of our supporters and sponsors. We look forward to a great season.”

The trucks – which have a long history in short track racing in the southwest – will be part of the racing action at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 2, during the track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race night. Series organizers Mike Riefler and Gary Wyatt are planning a five-event schedule for the LMTS in 2018, including a trio of appearances at The Bullring.

“We’re excited to bring a truck racing tour like the Late Model Truck Series back to the Southwest,” said Riefler, a longtime Bullring competitor. “We’ve seen a growing interest in our region for this kind of racing, and we believe the series will provide drivers and fans with yet another way to love and enjoy local racing. Kicking the season off at The Bullring will be a thrill, and we can’t wait to expand the series throughout the region.”

LMTS is a Premier West Coast Truck Touring Series

These Trucks from the southwest region have a long history in short track racing. The Speed Truck series originated back in 1997, under the American Speed Association (ASA.) At one time, MechanixWear gloves sponsored the class.

As a touring series, the Trucks raced up to 10 different tracks in one season, traveling through California, Arizona, and Nevada.

The Trucks go to local tracks. ranging from small 1/4-mile tracks to big 1/2-mile ovals, along with 1.7 and 2.1-mile road courses. Although the ASA Truck series disbanded in 2013, the remaining Trucks are regrouping and preparing to race as the Late Model Truck Series.
